Moving House in Parramatta? Your Lock & Key Checklist
Bliss Locksmith Service Parramatta ·
When you move into a new place, you rarely know how many keys exist. Previous owners, tenants, agents, cleaners and tradespeople may all have had copies.
The checklist
- Count your keys. Note which key opens which door.
- Rekey the external doors. Front, back, side and garage access doors come first. Rekeying makes every old key useless without replacing the locks.
- Check the deadbolts. Every main entry door should have one that locks properly.
- Test sliding doors. Sliding doors are often the weakest point of a home. Check that the lock catches and that the door can't be lifted off its track.
- Check the window locks. This matters most on ground-floor and easy-to-reach windows.
- Look for stiff or loose locks. A lock that's hard to turn now usually gets worse. A repair is usually cheaper before it fails.
- Organise spare keys. Decide who needs one and keep a record.

In NSW, check with your landlord or managing agent before changing or rekeying locks. We can liaise with your agent.
